‘A Chronicle of War Work’ Exhibition
This exhibition tells the story of the contribution of the staff and pupils of Cheltenham Ladies’ College to the war effort, both on the home front and on the front line. It includes a recreated ward from St Martin’s VAD Hospital, which was set up by the College in central Cheltenham to care for wounded soldiers. The exhibition focusses on the lasting effects the war had on female emancipation and the increased participation of women in the work place.

Memorial Painting & Exhibition
‘At Last Fighting is Over’: The end of the First World War on the Front and in Cheltenham In 1920 Cheltenham Borough Council commissioned Fred Roe to paint a war memorial picture. It portrayed six officers from the 1st Battalion of the 5th Gloucestershire Regiment, the first soldiers to leave Cheltenham the day after war was declared. St Peter’s & The Moors in WW1
This exhibition at the Hardwick Gallery focuses on the effect of the war on life in the St Peters & The Moors area of Cheltenham. We are asking local residents to share their WW1 family stories to go alongside information and exhibits which show the impact of the war in the area. Exhibition created by SPTM Big Local. WW1 Living History 10am-3pm
The Great War Society will be joining us to recreate a WW1 Army training camp that will give a unique insight into these aspects of life during WW1. University Chapel Remembrance
From 5th - 9th November the university will be remembering the former students of Cheltenham Training College and pupils of St. Paul’s Practising School who lost their lives in the First World War. 264 poppies are being crocheted by staff and alumni in remembrance of those who died - 96 for students from the college, and 168 for pupils from the school. This will be an opportunity for people to reflect on the commemoration activities which have taken place in St Peter’s & The Moors and support to form a new group ‘Friends of St Peter’s War Memorial’ to maintain and preserve the newly restored war memorial. An event with a difference to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice is to be held at St Nicolas’ Church, Swindon Lane, Cheltenham, on Saturday, 10 and Sunday, 11 November. It is a Floral Festival of Remembrance and displays will depict many aspects of the conflict. Join us in saying 'Thank You' to all the Cheltonian's who gave so much and asked so little. Cheltenham lost more than 1,200 servicemen and servicewomen in the First World War. The walk will begin in Sandford Park, take a route through the town, passing the war memorial on the promenade and finish in Montpellier Gardens where there will be a short service of remembrance. At 6am on November 11th at war memorials across the UK the tune "The Battle's O'er" will be played by bagpipers to mark the centenary of the Armistice. The tune will last just a few minutes and Cheltenham War Memorial, on the Promenade is one of the locations you can pay your respects that morning to those who have fallen in WW1.

From 2-5pm on Sunday November 11th at St Mary's Church, Pretsbury: There will be floral tributes, refreshments and a slideshow film showing life in Prestbury during WW1. The film is 20mins long and will repeat on a loop. A booklet guided Memorial Walk, telling the stories of some of the men listed on the village war memorial, will also be available.

Our final commemoration event is a powerful, thought provoking and poignant projection of WW1 imagery and sound that will light up the Municipal Offices, marking 100 years since the signing of the Armistice Agreement. Cheltenham Trust will be taking part in the Battle's Over national tribute by lighting a beacon at Cheltenham Town Hall at 7pm. After darkness has fallen, more than 1,300 Beacons of Light will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, with the first of these Beacons being lit at Westminster Abbey, London, that evening.
