On The Mend is a musical, romantic play about the nurses and patients who spent time in Cheltenham’s Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) hospitals during the First World War. Presented by the Everyman Theatre, it features professional actors alongside a number of local performers. The play will be staged over five nights at, or close to, sites of the original VAD hospitals to create a truly authentic experience. On The Mend promises to be moving, topical, funny, family-friendly and not to be missed.
The Great War Society will be joining us to recreate a WW1 Army training camp that will give a unique insight into these aspects of life during WW1. They will be setting up camp at the Folly, Swindon Road for a weekend of living history. Site opens 10-3 with demonstrations at 11am and 2pm. There will also be fun activities for all the family including traditional games, dressing up and treasure hunts. Why not bring a picnic and make a day of it?
